Jesus Name Above All Names
By Kenneth Hagin Jr.
We know that as believers, we possess the Name of Jesus and the
right to use that Name in life. Maybe we haven’t exercised our
authority in that Name as we should have. If that is so, we need to
correct this and begin to believe in the power in the Name of Jesus. We
need to do that because every good thing that God has given to us, He’s
given through that Name.
COLOSSIANS 3:17 17
And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all IN THE NAME OF THE LORD JESUS, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
The believers in the Early Church were taught this important truth of doing everything in the Name of Jesus. So they must have understood the benefits in the Name of Jesus better than believers seem to today. They probably used and appropriated the Name continually in every area of their lives. The Name should be a part of our everyday lives, too, because the Scripture says, ” . . whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus ….” The Early Church lived with the Name of Jesus on their lips. Everywhere they went, they were conscious of Jesus. And it produced results, not only in their lives, but also in the lives of those who were outside the Church–sinners.
Those outside the Church feared the Name of Jesus. For instance, when Peter and John were taken into custody after the man was healed at the Gate called Beautiful, the priests and the religious people said, “But that it spread no further among the people, let us straitly threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name” (Acts 4:17). Then verse 18 says, “And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.”
So the Name of Jesus should be on our lips at all times. When you understand the magnitude of that Name and are continually conscious of it, others will notice. Acts 4:13 says, “. . . when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and THEY TOOK KNOWLEDGE OF THEM, that they had been with Jesus.”
Notice this verse didn’t say, “They took knowledge of them that they’d been in a prayer meeting,” or, “They took knowledge of them that they had been on a long fast.” No, the people noticed that they had been with Jesus!
Do you want to get noticed? Start walking with Jesus! Start doing everything you do in His Name. Should the Church in the first century be different from the Church today? No, we’re the same Church with the same Holy Spirit, and the same power. The Name of Jesus belongs to us today just as it belonged to the Church of the Colossians.
The Apostle Paul instructed the Church at Colosse: “Whatever you do in word or deed, do it in the Name of Jesus.” In other words, if you sweep the floor, sweep it in the Name of Jesus. If you mow the lawn, do it in the Name of Jesus. If you teach school, teach in the Name of Jesus. If you’re a singer, sing in the Name of Jesus.
Whatever we do, we are to do it in the Name. We are to live in the Name of Jesus!
When I was a kid, I used to go with my dad to conventions and meetings. Once when we went to a convention, someone got up on the platform to sing a special. The person sang “perfectly”–all the words were enunciated clearly, and the hand gestures were just right. When the person finished, everyone said, “Oh, praise the Lord, that was good.”
Then after that person sang, a couple came to the platform to sing another special. They didn’t even go to the center of the stage. They just stood on the side of the platform. The man had an old guitar that looked like it was bought at a second-hand store. And he didn’t play it; he “beat” on it!
He began to beat on that thing, and they started singing something that sounded sort of off-key. But I want to tell you, they sang from the bottom of their hearts and lifted up Jesus. And by the time they finished singing, everyone in the place was shouting and praising the Lord!
I recalled the incident many years later and asked Dad about it. I asked him why one singer who was so professional evoked so little response from the congregation, while the other singers, who weren’t nearly as talented, “brought the house down” with the power of God.
Dad said, “Well, the one singer got up in his own might and in his own strength. But that couple got up there singing unto Jesus.”
In other words, they weren’t trying to bring glory to themselves or trying to get any meetings for themselves. They were just glorifying Jesus!
You see, when someone does something in the Name of Jesus–as unto the Lord–the anointing “splashes,” as it were, over on everyone else around him. And everyone is blessed!
Whatever you do in life, if you will do it in the Name of Jesus, you will be blessed, your work will be blessed, and others will be blessed too! It’s all in the Name!
Colossians 3:17 goes right along with Acts 17:28: “For in him we live, and move, and have our being ….” Many people want to apply Acts 17:28 only in the spiritual realm. But you take the spiritual with you everywhere you go in the natural. You live in Him; you move in Him; and you have your being in Him–it’s all in the Name of Jesus!
Since the Lord began dealing with me along these lines, I’ve been extremely careful to do all in the Name of Jesus. For example, if someone starts giving me a bunch of negative reports about something, I whisper to myself, “In the Name of Jesus. In the Name of Jesus.”
Thank God for the Word and for the power of good, Word-based confessions. But I have found out that when you start feeling down, you can just start saying, “In the Name of Jesus.” And you can’t say that Name very long without experiencing God’s peace and being lifted up in your spirit!
So I encourage you to say that Name out loud: “Jesus!” Get somewhere by yourself and scream it out if you have to! That Name will change the atmosphere. The devil can’t stay around when you’re using the Name properly.
That verse, “. . . whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him,” is talking about “whatsoever ye do” every day, every minute, every hour! Do all in the Name of the Lord Jesus! You can even go to sleep in the Name of Jesus. Just say, “I’m going to lie down and go to sleep, and I’m going to sleep peacefully in the Name of Jesus.” Then when you get up, do so in the Name of Jesus, saying, “This is the day that You have made. I will rejoice and be glad in it!”
So, we should do everything, whether in word or deed, in the Name of Jesus. We are to live in that Name!
