5 Must-Haves for Your Church Website
Tiana Franca
A website is a great thing to have for your church. It can give out needed information to your members and potential members. You could just throw something together quickly, but that wouldn’t be very effective. In order for your website to truly help people in the way it was intended to, having an effective, nicely designed, easy to read website is key. I’ve compiled a list of 5 must-haves for your church website:
1. Videos of Sermons
This is an extremely effective tool for your church website. If your members aren’t able to attend church one morning, it’s nice for them to be able to open the church website and find that morning’s sermon to watch. Another thing you could do is live stream the service on social media, then post it to your website. A lot of people like to watch the service as it’s happening.
2. A Church Calendar
Even in you have a church bulletin and paper calendar of events, it can be very helpful to have an online calendar as well. Papers get misplaced and thrown away, but if it’s online your members can easily access it and view upcoming events. Having an online calendar also helps whoever types, prints, and places the calendar in every single bulletin save time. If it’s online, they don’t have to format and type it.
3. Overview of Ministries
If your church is like most, you probably have many different ministries for girls and boys, teens and children, and others. If a potential member is attempting to find out more about your church through your website, it is helpful for them to be able to view the different classes/age groups your church offers. This is often an important factor in choosing a church, so it’s important to communicate what your church has to offer. Is there nursery? Children’s church? Women’s ministry?
4. Social Media Buttons
This is a great tool for your members/interested people to easily connect with your church. Be sure that the buttons are easily accessible so people don’t have any trouble connecting with you. Having a social media account for your church is also a great way to connect with people that you may never actually meet in real life, but they are hearing about your church anyway. It’s also helpful for sharing events, as word on social media travels very quickly.
5. General Information
General information includes service days and times, location, phone number, email address, etc. This is the most important thing to have on your website. How are people supposed to come to your church if they don’t know where it’s located?
I hope this list is helpful to you when creating a church website. There are other things you could put on your website, but these are, in my opinion, the most important things. The main point of a church website is to help others learn more about your church and how to connect with your leaders/ pastors.
