BY HIS STRIPES… I AM HEALED
By: Sabbath Arie Garmon
THE CRUCIFIXION OF CHRIST
Jesus went to the cross despising the shame,
He was nailed there for you and for me,
They pierced His dear side, nailed His hands and His feet,
and on His body they put thirty-nine stripes.
He took my sins and my sickness, my sorrow and my pain.
It was nailed to the cross with Him,
and by His stripes I am healed.
Oh, the earth did quake and the temple was rent,
and the sun and moon refused to shine.
For there our great Creator hung on that cruel cross
suspended between heaven and earth.
It was darkness all over the face of the earth,
when the Son of God was hanging there and he cried,
“My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”
The Son of God hung there suffering
and He looked out over that angry crowd and said,
“Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.”
Jesus said, “I thirst,” and they gave Him vinegar to drink
and when he received it, He said, “It is finished”
and he bowed His precious head and died.
By His stripes I am healed, by the stripes on His body – I am healed!
(from Isaiah 53; Matt. 8; I Peter 2:23 & 24)
The Lord saved me in the later part of October 1937. I was 40 years of
age when I gave my life to Him. I was a member of a Baptists Church and
thought I was saved. The Lord had mercy on me and let me know I was
lost. I prayed the sinner’s prayer and He saved me and became the Lord
of my life. Later I received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.
There have been times in my Christian walk that I have experienced
trouble, financial distress and illness but have learned to read the
Word of God and trust Him. I’ve learned to have faith in Him, believe
what He says, knowing He will bring it to pass.
In November 1987 I came down with what I thought was a cold. After
several weeks of treatment at home, I had not gotten any better. My
family decided I should go to the hospital. The diagnosis was
pleuodryademia (fluid on the lungs). They drained a quart and one-half
of fluid, I was drowning in my own fluid.
After 5 days of treatment and testing my electrolytes became
unbalanced. For the next 2 weeks many days and night my family stayed
with me not knowing if I would make it through this crisis.
Finally I began to improve and after 3 weeks in the hospital was
discharged, but the final opinion was that I had tuberculosis. They had
been treating me with several medicines, one of which was an oral
medication for tuberculosis. The medicine made me sick, so that I
couldn’t eat, even small portions. I was sent home to rest and continue
the medicine. They assured me eventually I would be able to tolerate
it, but it did not get any better.
Since tuberculosis is a communicable disease, a nurse from the Health
Services was assigned to visit and check to see that I was taking the
medicine.
Because I’ve always had a good appetite which kept me strong even at 91
years of age – not being able to eat much was making me weak. I decided
to stop taking the medicine and trust the same Lord and Saviour who
saved me to heal me by the stripes He suffered on the Cross.
Over the objections of my family, my personal physician, the lung
specialist and the threats from the Health Services of the possibility
of being isolated in a sanitarium, I refused to continue taking the
medicine. I was determined to believe for my healing.
The follow-up checks by my personal physician and the lung specialist
proved my healing was in progress and finally finished.
Dr. David Markle said, “Mrs. Garmon – Your are a Miracle!”
I am thankful for the doctors, the nurses, the hospital, antibiotics
and good nutrition, but sometimes even these things are not enough —
we need a Higher Power. God does the healing!
I could go on and on about the many mercies and miracles God has done
for me and my family – Praise the Lord!
I am 94 years of age now and in good health. I am so glad I learned to
walk in the light of God’s Word. “By His Stripes, I Am Healed.”
It makes no difference what you have done or what you are doing – look
at the Cross where Jesus died nearly 2000 years ago for you. Be Sure
You Are Saved. There’s only one way – that’s through the shed blood of
Jesus.
If you need healing, He will do the same for you.
