COMMUNICATION RESOURCES –
ALL THE PIECES YOU NEED GRAPHICS FOR THE MAC…
By: John B. Severson
How many times have you seen the full color ad in Christian Computing and said to yourself, “Now that looks like neat graphic software for my church!” – but then never sent in an order or called their WATS number for ordering or more information. Well, I called and I wasn’t disappointed!
It wasn’t until I called that I realized we had been using many of the resources from Communication Resources for a long time, but just the “clip art” collections. Now here was a company that was looking ahead and producing a parallel line to meet the needs of computer using churches. And here was a company that was willing to gamble that the computer market was here to stay. There are other good graphics available for the Mac, but Communication Resources offers some interesting options that the others haven’t caught on to yet.
ChurchArt for your Mac
This is what they call their product line in the Spring 1990 catalogue. They have been “The Newsletter Specialists” for many churches for years with their special paper clip art supplies, and most of us have used
them in our newsletters–but what about their product for the computerwise, DTP Church?
Well, ChurchArt for your Macintosh offers four excellent packages at very attractive prices. You can choose from any of The following high resolution art disks which include over 100 illustrations per set at $39.95 per set. (By ordering the entire set for $139.80, you save $20!)
Church Activities includes graphics activities like: picnics, vacation bible schools, bake sales, work days, activities for children, hymn sings, swimming, spring retreats, etc. All give a broad range of activities which most churches include in the normal programming.
Seasonal includes the Christmas Program, Holy Week Schedule, Thanksgiving, Sunrise Services, Month Names, Memorial Day, Candlelight Services, World Communion Sunday, etc.–all really handy for any
special day in the church or nation.
General Series I covers such topics as births, new members, welcomes, directory changes, library news, remember, flower calendar, birthdays, annual reports, wedding anniversaries, etc.–special graphics that one never seems to have when you need them.
General Series I follows more of the worship bulletin and newsletter items that revolve around worship and the church school: baptism, bible reading, music, church staff, evangelism, prayer chains, Sunday School,
trustees, ushers, teachers, etc.–another very handy set for any newsletter.
These disks contain individual illustrations that have been created with a resolution of over 400 dots per inch which gives an excellent quality graphic on the laser and 24-pin dot matrix printers. Each set
comes in an attractive storage container and with an easy to follow reference manual.
The New ChurchArt on Disk
This innovative idea is a “disk-a-month” subscription service which follows the same pattern they so successfully used in their paper clip-art packaging for many years. Here is a convenient and economical
method of building an extensive Church Art Library on disks for your computer.
Each month a new disk arrives which includes illustrations that are appropriate for the month and season of the year, and the graphics cover a broad range of church activities from worship to attention grabbers. The exciting thing about these graphics is that they are created in the new and versatile TIFF format which the best DTP programs and word processors like to use.
Your initial order comes with a “custom jumbo D-Ring Binder” which will hold many months of disks and reference cards. A vinyl file jacket hold each disk safely behind the illustrated monthly index so your
organizational problems are solved.
The cost is $79.95 for a full year if paid in advance, or $44.95 for six months. Don’t even bother to worry about a trial period–go for the year, you won’t be sorry! All of the graphic are compatible with programs such as Canvas, PageMaker, Quark XPress, Word 4.0, etc.New This Fall
This fall Communication Resources has come out with another addition to their already excellent product line for the Mac called ThemeArt on Disk. ThemeArt brings the six best selling paper art sheets to the
computer user, and again has been converted to TIFF images for higher quality and better compatibility with the desktop publishing packages in use today. Each set contain 25 or more illustrations created at 300
dpi with a pictorial index for reference. The six topics are: Attention Grabbers, Birthdays/Anniversaries, Christian Symbols, Meals, Months of the Year, and Thanks. Each disk sells for $8.95–at this time there is
no discount for multiple orders.
I look forward to many new additions to their computer graphic line in the years to come, and see this as a very cost effective way of building your graphic library and keeping it current. Give them a try–you won’t be disappointed.
