From Hurting To Heroes
Rick Lovall
I’m sure many of you have preached about David’s might men of valor-and rightly so. But have you ever stopped to see where they came from-who they really were?
1 Samuel 22:1-2: David therefore departed thence, and escaped to the cave Adullam: and when his brethren and all his father’s house heard it, they went down thither to him. And every one that was in distress, and every one that was in debt, and every one that was discontented, gathered themselves unto him; and he became a captain over them: and there were with him about four hundred men.
David was not only surrounded by his family, he was surrounded by men who were stressed out, broke and bitter! I call these men “David’s Dissidents.” Wow! What a way to start a revival!
These two verses prove what a great leader David really was. He took the hurting, and turned them into heroes! He took the stress out and turned them into the “called out”. He took the broken and turned them into the blessed! How did he do it? I believe he relied on his anointing, his vision and his determination to the see the will of God completed!
So who are you surrounded by today? Have any hurt folks in your church? Have any broken folks? Do you have any roots of bitterness growing in the field you’ve been called to labor in? Thought so-and guess what-you aren’t the only one! I say we take a tip from David and allow the anointing God has placed on our lives to guide and direct us and those we are surrounded by, to complete victory!
Oh-and did you catch the fact they were in a cave? Hunkered down, trying to regroup, running for their lives, and I’m sure flapping their jaws about all of their problems. But anointed leadership prevailed. And when it did, heroes were born.
Take a good look at your church, your youth group, your Sunday school class. See any future heroes around you? If not, go pray and then take another look.
