Saul was God’s chosen man to crush David. He almost killed David. David got a revelation though, and we read it through his writings and throughout his Psalms. David had a revelation of life and God’s university. God placed him under God’s authority and God’s man, even to the place of breaking him. Even to the place of almost destroying him.
David prayed, create in me a clean heart, and renew in me a right spirit, help me to be what you want me to be. David had a question at the beginning of life and here is the question. “What do you do when someone throws a spear at you?” You’re worshipping God; your praising the Lord; you’re doing what you feel you need to do for the Lord and then a spear comes your way and it’s out to destroy you. What are you
going to do? The first thing you’d better do is duck. David moved very quickly, he ducked and the spear splinted behind it and stuck into it. David ducked and he had this question: What do you do, pick up the
spear and throw it back? This is what the devil says, and the flesh says, Somebody just threw a spear at me while the dirty so and so.
Somehow, these thoughts didn’t enter the mind of David. David was already going through a process of Gods university. God can only use a broken vessel in His church. His victory can only come through broken
vessels in the end-time.
God can only use young people that will be broken vessels. Elders, deacons, trustees, and ushers, whatever your name, whatever your position, he can only use you and be pleased with you as you are a broken vessel. Oh Lord, help me not to exalt myself in my position. Help me to abase myself in your presence for the way God’s will is in this economy. The way up in God’s kingdom is not throwing a spear back, but saying, “Lord Jesus, give me grace.” When you throw the spear back, you have just become guilty of the same attack that
you’ve been attacked with. When you throw the spear back, you have just become no better than your attacker. When you throw the spear back all you have done is become a vessel of a guilty spirit. But you say, I’m right. You say, I’ve been pushed around and that I’m the one who needs to do something. I’m going to correct it. You are probably good material for leadership. You probably might be a king someday and even
though you are qualified, your kingship will be after the order of a song, twenty years after you’ve been in leadership, and twenty years after you’ve gone down the read of human events. You’ll probably be the
best spear thrower in the kingdom, until somebody come’s up against you. You can cut their throat. Somebody attacks you there is no one better at getting revenge, and most assuredly that type of direction
will make you very mad in a matter of time. What does the bible show us to do in a very exact replica; in a very understanding life.
What does the bible do when someone tries to use us as target practice. What does the bible do when someone tries to break a heart or defame us. David did not use Saul’s spear; he refused to. He wouldn’t
even use Saul’s armor when he fought Goliath, he sure wasn’t going to use his spear now. David didn’t make any spears himself. David didn’t use anybody else’s spears although there was plenty around that
probably came to him. The thing that David did was, number one-Dodge and keep worshiping the Lord. Number two-after he dodged the spear, he pretended as though it had never happened and, Number three–he didn’t let the spear hit him. If you let a spear hit you deep enough it’ll wound you and the wound can go so deep it’ll put infection and can affect your life it you let it. It can also destroy your usefulness and
will fill you with bitterness. David learned one thing about life. You run from a spear thrower when you meet one. When you are around someone that is cantacerous, a destroyer, always negative against preaching, other preachers, or negative towards anything consecutively…Watch out for them. Make sure you keep your attitude right and your heart right. If you are attacked in the palace of a king or in a kingdom, logic says to leave the kingdom, but David never left, or quit. David kept worshiping the Lord. He got his eyes off Saul and it says in verse 14:”But I trusted in thee Oh Lord, I said thou art my God, my times are in thine hand. Deliver me from the hand of mine enemies, and from them that persecute me. Make thine face to shine upon thine servant and save me for thine mercy sake. Let me not be ashamed. Oh Lord, for I have called upon thee. Let the wicked be ashamed.
You know what Moses said ” stand still and see the salvation of the Lord.” You know why so many people get into trouble? They always try to fight. You’ll never win an argument even though you win it. You’ll never win a battle in the flesh even though you win it. You’ll never win fighting people because when you’re fighting people you’re ultimately fighting God and His will. You see, God wants us all to enroll in a university today. His University of brokenness. He said, when you’re smacked on one cheek, turn the other. You say I’ve lost then, I’ve been humiliated, I’ve been knocked down, I’m a sissy. They hit me on one side of the face and I turn and they hit me on the other side. Jesus said it for a reason. You don’t win by hitting back. You don’t win by fighting back. You win only when you get on your knees and humble yourself before God and ask God to give you grace and ask God to Bless them, and ask God to anoint them.
Bless them that curse you. Pray for your enemies. Pray for them that despitefully use you and persecute you. We always try it the wrong way. It’s so important to realize when the spear’s thrown…duck and
pray for them and run. While you’re on the run keep praying. David got his eyes off of Saul; he didn’t want to be like Saul. He didn’t want the attitude of Saul. He said “My God I’m going to be the next king, I
can’t be like this. I don’t want to be like that guy that just tried to kill me. David went running and worshipping the Lord and he did everything he needed to do scripturally and spiritually. He wept and he
prayed. forgave, sang, and he thanked the Lord that he got Saul out of his heart, until he had such victory over Saul. Everything Saul tried to do against him turned against Saul. Everything Saul tried to pour on
his head, it turned against Saul and David found himself with a clean heart, a right spirit and the operation called the experience of David could have killed the patient, but while he was on the operating table,
because Saul sought, breathed, and lived to kill David, and David lived and breathed to bless God. Think of the attitude of that shepherd boy, a man after God’s own heart and if you salute those who salute you,
what reward have ye in heaven? Do not even the publicans do that, but be ye therefore perfect-When he said Be ye therefore perfect, he wasn’t talking about being perfect in yourself, he was saying be perfect in
your relationship toward your enemy. Be perfect in your attitude toward your God. Be perfect as your father in heaven was perfect towards His enemies. He loved them.
David accepted his fate that he was in the will of God under the pressures of Saul, under the demonic attitudes of Saul towards him. He embraced his circumstances. He didn’t complain; he didn’t murmur or
lift his hand. He silently went through his crucifixion. He was mutilated in his heart and spirit. He was absolutely to the place where his spirit was so tested that his personality changed at times. His appearance changed at times. His lifestyle was altered. David never tried to split the kingdom, even though he knew he was used of the Lord. He never tried to split the kingdom of Saul. Saul hunted him like a dog. He went to the caves alone where he got his inspirations. Caves are damp, wet, cold, lonesome, have echoes of baying dogs. David would sit in the cold drinking rainwater, eating bits of food that he could find, running like a wild man. Here was the great and mighty David being hunted like some wild animal. The mothers of Israel would say, if you don’t obey me you are going to end up like that giant killer.
It’s really easy to lead a group of people…one big bowl of cherries. So rewarding, everything is handed to you, but David found everything was being crushed out of him. He sang and worshipped in the cave. It was in the cave where David became the greatest hymn writer and soul inspiration that the world has ever known; the soul inspiration for broken hearts and spirits, and lonely people known to the world. It was all inspired in the cave, not the throne. Suffering gave birth to humility in David. For twelve years Dave was no earthly good, but in God’s eyes he was a broken vessel that God could give authority to seeing spirits are what make you today. How you react when your suffering…that’s the key issue of life. Everybody’s gonna get their chance to get bitter, either in marriage, children, close friends, circumstances, or relatives. Everybody will get the chance. When you get to that place, come to grips with God.
David always said “Touch not God’s annointed, and do his prophets no harm.” He didn’t just say that and flap off about it, he proved it. He had his chance and his flesh was at it’s strongest feeling. If you
allow the Saul spirit to creep in you and breath in your lungs today, it’s going to kill you and it will annihilate you if you don’t kill Saul first. You’d better get Saul out of your heart and get David
enthroned. You’d better get the revenge out of your heart and put the love of David in your heart. You’d better get the spear throwing out of your mind and put the slingshot boy in your heart. That comes only in
the name of the Lord. He used his slingshot and is against the enemies of God.
Jesus said in Matthew 5:43-“God has heard that it hath been said thou shalt love thy neighbor and hate thine enemy but I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you do good to them that hate
you, pray for them which despitefully use you and persecute you.” Why should I do that?…That you may be the children of your Father which is in heaven. I’m saying if you don’t do what Jesus said, your only not
a child of God. He said “If you do these things, you’ll be my children.” He said “You’ll be my child, but if you don’t do those things, you only not will be the child of God you’ll end up like Saul and his spirit. You’ll end up with his attitude and you’ll end up with his tragedies. Jesus said “Love them”, be kind and pray for them that you may be the children of your Father which is in heaven. For he maketh the sun to rise on the even and good and He sendeth rain on the just and the unjust. For if you love them which love you, what reward have ye in heaven.
