How God Has Chosen To Reveal Himself

How God Has Chosen To Reveal Himself
Part 1

Heb, 1:1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past. . .

God has chosen to reveal Himself indirectly to man through divers means:

Through His own spoken word (Ex. 3:14)

Through His creation (Rom. 1:20, 23)

Through Theophanies (Ex. 3:2-6) (Dan. 3:25)
Through visions, dreams, types and shadows

But the greatest of all through a progressive revelation of His name:

1. Elohim – or God

A. The King James version of our Bible distinguishes the names of God through printers type thus Elohim is translated twenty-three hundred times in scripture as God.

B. Elohim is not the personal name of God

It is His official title

It is the title of God just as the word “President” is the title of an office. (The President is the official title of the Chief executive of the United States, it is not his name but his title) God’s official name is Elohim – His office

C. The meaning of Elohim

The literal meaning is; the putterforth of power, the strong one.

His power was put forth in Genesis chapter 1 in ten words of creative power.

1. Created

2. Made

3. Moved

4. Said

5. Saw

6. Called

7. Divided

8. Set

9. Ended

10. Blessed

No creature has power but that which God has given him.

His power in Government:

Dan, 4:32-34
2:21
4:17

Isa. 44:28-45:1-5

His power in judgment:

Ezek. 7:9
Psa. 75:6,7
Psa. 9:17
Psa. 76:6-10

2. Jehovah or Redeemer

The words GOD and LORD (all capital letters) in the King James version are best translated Jehovah.

A. Jehovah is the personal name of God. There were many Elohims or gods, but there was only one Jehovah. Thus Exo. 20:2 reads “I am the Lord thy God.” or “I am Jehovah thy Elohim” or “I am the redeemer the strong one.” Deut 6:4 “Hear, O Israel the Lord our God is one Lord” (Jehovah our Elohim is one Jehovah)

There are many Gods but only one Jehovah (I Cor 8:5) All, other Gods are existent only in the vain imaginations and infinite minds of men. (Elijah, at Carmel, faced the people with who is Elohim? Was it Baal or Jehovah?)

B. Every time Jehovah is used it is connected with deliverance of God.

This name was so sacred to the Jews that it was written by them but never pronounced. It was considered to be too sacred to be spoken by human lips.

C. When was the name revealed?

As deliverance was needed Exo. 6:2,3

D. Is this a temporary name?

No!! Jehovah is the eternal I am Exo. 2:13,14

There is no past nor future with Jehovah; He is the eternal present, the self-existent one, The one that made. Himself known.

E. How is God identified by men

HOW GOD HAS CHOSEN TO REVEAL HIMSELF

He is Jehovah the mighty God of redemption

3. Jah – The name of praise-

Found only once in King James version about 48 times in others Psa. 68:4Ex. 15:2. (not translated as Jah here but could be)

4. Adonai – Means master or owner

a. First found in Gen. 15:1,2

b. Adonai can always be known by the word Lord or lord in the O.T. of the King James version

h. Jehovah-Sabaoth – “The Lord of hosts” (warfare orservice)

6. The 3 Eloistic combinations –

Elyon means highest combined with El it means Most highgod

b. El Olam – “Everlasting God” Gen. 21:33From eternity to eternity He is the God of all ages.

C. El Shaddai – Almighty godgen. 17:1 “I am the almighty God walk before me and bethou perfect.

1. This is one of the most cherished names of Godheld by students of the Bible.

El Shaddai means – Breast of God – All sufficientgod – God who is enough – God who is able.

Gen. 17:1 – Abraham was 99 yrs old – he was not ableto bring forth the child of promise but El Shaddai -was the God who is able.

Why do we study and cherish these old testament name of God??

All these progressive names roll forward and invest allthere power and meaning in the final consummation of the name ofthe ages, Jesus Christ our Lord.

For all power in heaven and earth dwells in that name. Acts 4:12For in Him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily (Col. 2:9)

Jesus Christ is:
