Living Sacrifice

Paul D. Mooney

Romans 12:1

Introduction:

Eventually, almost every problem is discovered to be a ‘people problem’. Quite honestly every relationship will have certain rough spots or difficulties. Most people who fail in life do so because of their inability to develop right attitudes toward dealing with others, either on the job, at church or in marriage.

When problems arise, how do you deal with them? What does the Bible teach us to do about the frustrations caused by the kids, boss, neighbors, marriage partners or acquaintances? Should you:
– Change the Situation?
– Change the Person?
– Change Yourself?

I – Change the Situation

A. Quit
B. Drop-out
C. Complain

II – Change Others (The most popular solution!)

A. “He’d better straighten out”
B. Do people change easily? (Think!)
C. What’s the process?

III – Change Yourself (The Undiscovered Power!)

A. Tough?
B. Why Should You?
C. Is It Fair?

IV – Starting

A. The first principle is ‘forgiving’
B. The second principle is ‘loving’ (*Thinking – *Doing)

The emotional high that is called love is, in fact, the reward for loving. If one sits and waits for some emotional feeling to move them, they are unlikely to ever truly love. Love is doing! (“God so loved that He gave”) Our capacity to love is unlimited and only as you love will your life become expanded and you will rise above pettiness, resentment, and prejudice. Self-sacrifice and loving, in spite of the situation or how you’re treated by others, is the chief lesson of Christ’s ministry. Loving is the secret to effective evangelism, as well.
