PARENT INVOLVEMENT

Parent Orientation and conferences promote a good understanding between parents or guardians and the faculty administration of G.W.C.A.

Every parent or guardian is required to be in attendance at the first Parent-Teacher Fellowship which will be scheduled during the first quarter. At this time the parents will go through an orientation program to familiarize them with the procedures and policies of G.W.C.A.

Parent conferences with the Supervisor are scheduled following the first and third quarter to review the progress of the students.

ATTENDANCE

A written excuse signed by the parent or guardian must be presented to the office when a student returns to school after an absence. The secretary will issue an admittance slip to the student. A student who has been absent will not be allowed back in class without an admittance slip. If the absence is foreseeable, a note should be sent in advance. Doctor, dental, music, and other appointments are to be made after
school hours. Tuesday or Thursday at 1:30 P.M. is for this purpose.

Absences other than sickness and emergency will be excused only if arrangements are made in advance with the Principal and the studentis sufficiently advanced in his work.

Excessive absences will inhibit the child’s progress. If, in the opinion of the administration, the student’s absences are unnecessary, the child will be considered truant and must be reported.

A student is considered tardy if he is not in the Learning Center at 9:00 A.M. Detention will be given. Continued tardiness will necessitate a conference with parent and Principal, possibly leading to revocation
of student privileges.

STATEMENT OF FAITH

WE BELIEVE:

1. The Bible to be the inspired Word of God, infallible in its original writings.
2. In the One everliving, eternal God, infinite in power, holy in nature, attributes, and purpose; in His absolute indivisible deity. That this One true God revealed Himself as Father, in creation; through His Son, in redemption; and as the Holy Spirit in Power.

3. That Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

4. That in the beginning God created man innocent, and pure and holy but through the sin of disobedience, Adam fell; hence, by one man’s disobedience, sin entered into the world.

5. Our redemption has been accomplished by the shedding of blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, who was made sin for us. Dying in our form and stead, rising again from the dead, ascending with a glorified body.

6. In repentance to God, confessing ourselves as sinners.

7. That water baptism (immersion) is for believers and should be administered in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of sins according to the Acts of the Apostles.

8. In the baptism of the Holy Spirit for believers, obtained by obedience evident by speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance.

9. That Divine healing is in the atonement.

10. That tithing is God’s financial plan to provide for the ministry of the church and has been since the days of Abraham.

11. The nine gifts of the Spirit should be manifest in the church today.

12. The Spirit-filled believers will produce the fruit of the Spirit in their lives and will walk according to Godliness and holy living.

13. Jesus is coming again in person just as He went away.

14. That there will be a great and final Judgment as recorded in the Word of God.

G.W.C.A. TRAINING GROUNDS FOR CHRISTIAN YOUTH

1. To ensure that each child comes to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, achieves a higher level of Christian maturity, attains a deeper commitment, and becomes a more effective witness for the Lord.

2. To emphasize the individuality of the individual and to assist each child in properly responding to himself and to others; to develop self-confidence, individual God-given talents and abilities in creativity,
goal setting, and communication, academics and principles of success.

3. To promote self-discipline by training them to be relevant, consistent, appreciative, responsible, and thorough in attitude, character and actions.

4. Offer highest quality of education in the community.

5. To assist each child in seeking his purpose for life’s service and necessary preparation for eternity through emphasis upon Biblical relevance.

6. To eliminate failure and repetition.

7. To help each child to learn how to live and to honor the Lord by meeting the daily responsibilities with which God has entrusted him.

DISCIPLINE

Golden West Christian Academy is not a corrective institution. Consequently, we ask that you do not enroll your child with the idea that we will reform him/her. We are here to work with the home, but not to take the place of parents who have experienced difficulty in fulfilling their role.

Children are not accepted who smoke, have run away from home, have been arrested, used narcotics, or are married. A student will be dismissed who violates any of these prohibitions.

All new students are admitted on probation for up to six weeks.

Students must at all times conduct themselves in a manner becoming of a Christian. Griping is not tolerated! If your child does come home complaining about a policy of G.W.C.A. or discipline, please follow this procedure:

1. Give the staff the benefit of the doubt.
2. Realize that his/her reporting is emotionally biased without all the  information.
3. Realize that we have reasons for all rules and that they are enforced  without favor.
4. Support the Administration and call for the facts.

When a child’s attitude is not in accord with school policies or principles, the child will be placed on probation; both parents are to be called for a conference. If the Administration feels the situation has not changed within two (2) weeks, parents will be asked to withdraw the child.

High school students in particular – because of their testimony before the younger children-are trained to adhere to the school’s philosophy and Christ-centered program. Such includes abstaining from smoking,
alcoholic beverages, use of narcotics, hard rock and roll music, dancing, swearing, or any other questionable practices.

G.W.C.A. is dedicated to the training of children in a program of study, activity, and living that is Christ-centered. We believe that “all things should be done decently and in order” and that our students should be taught to accept a given responsibility to walk honorably before all man. Thus, at G.W.C.A. a discipline is maintained which is firm, consistent, fair, and tempered with Love. Our faculty maintains standards of behavior in the classroom through kindness, love and a genuine regard for their students. However, when disciplinary action becomes necessary, it is firmly carried out, tempered by good judgment and understanding.

Students are reminded that the Lord Jesus Christ expects us to be disciplined in all of life:

“Children, obey your parents in all things; for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.” Colossians 3:20

“Let every soul be subject to the higher powers.” Romans 13:1

“Obey them that have the rule over you and submit yourself.” Hebrews 13:17

“For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is right; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life.” Proverbs 6:23

“He is in the way of life that keepeth instruction: But he that refuseth reproof erreth.” Proverbs 19:18

“Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.” Proverbs 22:15

“Chasten thy son while there is hope; and let not thy soul spare for his crying.” Proverbs 19:18

FIELD TRIPS

In connection with their studies in the arts and sciences, students have a number of field trips scheduled during the year. Although each such off campus learning experience is of real enjoyment for the students, it
is to be realized that these experiences are designed primarily to enrich learning. Supervisors may ask students to take notes and be tested upon returning to the school.

A natural outgrowth of such trips, under the supervision of adults on every occasion, is that the student is disciplined in the art of self-control and gracious conduct in all kinds of situations.

G.W.C.A. FASHIONS

Proper grooming must be taught along with other rules of manner and morals, and G.W.C.A. supports the emphasis of the Christian home in matters of modesty of dress, their hair styles, and good grooming.

G.W.C.A. fashions are conducive to good study habits and are worn by all students in order that the proper emphasis may be placed upon the matter of dress. G.W.C.A. makes no apology for the fact that it seeks to use every means at its disposal, including dress, to encourage its students to think and act like ladies and gentlemen.

Uniforms remove the very unattractive spirit of clothes competition which seeks to draw improper attention to self or sex, and encourages each student to gain recognition through personal charm or conscientious work. It serves as an economy measure for school parents and gives the students a distinctive appearance engendering school pride and Christian conduct.

Bizarre styles, fads, badges, pins, emblems, skirt length, etc., are calculated to call attention to the wearer and will not be permitted.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

All students are required to participate in Physical Education. No student will be excused from the course without parental permission.

In most cases (bad weather being the exception) students who are well enough to come to school are well enough to participate in P.E. Parents must send a written note to the office if they feel that their child is
too sick to participate.

If, in the opinion of the administration, this provision is being abused in any way, a note from the doctor must be submitted. All clothes are to be loose fitting.

CHRISTIAN AMERICANISM

G.W.C.A. places emphasis upon the greatness of America’s heritage and the sacrifices of its heroes. America is a Republic which guarantees liberties to educate to preserve freedom. We unashamedly teach the Biblical doctrines of self-discipline, respect for those in authority, obedience to law, and love for the flag and the country.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE TO THE AMERICAN FLAG

“I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, One Nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

SONG . . . AMERICA

“My country ’tis of thee, sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing. Land where my Fathers died, land of the pilgrim’s pride, from every mountain side, let freedom ring.”

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE TO THE CHRISTIAN FLAG

“I pledge allegiance to the Christian flag, and to the Savior for whose kingdom it stands. One Savior, crucified, risen, and coming again with life and liberty for all who believe.”

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE TO THE BIBLE

“I pledge allegiance to the Bible, God’s Holy Word; I will make it a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path, and will hide its word in my heart, that I might not sin against God.”
