The Christmas Star

BY NELDA BLACKWELL

From the beginning of time, man has studied the stars. We find in the Biblical account of Jesus’ birth, three wise men followed a special star that led them to the Christ child. They knew this special child
was a king, but they did not know that he was also the Bright and Morning Star. Like many others, including his Apostles, they expected him to establish an earthly kingdom. Isn’t that what kings do? But his kingdom was not of this world, for he declared that the kingdom of God is within men.

Mary carried the Christ Child in her womb so that we could carry him in our hearts. While he was establishing the fact to his disciples that his Kingdom was a spiritual kingdom, he consoled them with this promise found in John 15:18, “I will not leave you comfortless; I will come to you.” Prior to this verse, he assured them that he would no longer dwell with them, but he would abide in them. Romans 14:17 says, “For the Kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.” Jesus assured them that the Comforter was the Holy Ghost and He declared that they would receive power after the Holy Ghost had come upon them. Jesus said that he was the light of the
world and after he ascended to heaven His followers would become the light of the world.

II Peter 1:19 declares, “We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts.” Just as the star led the wise men to Jesus we need to allow the bright and morning star to shine in our lives. This will help others who are walking in darkness find their way to Jesus and worship
Him. Then they too can receive His Spirit, which is Christ in them, the hope of Glory.

Today, people still study the stars. They inquire as to what star they were born under, daily they search the Zodiac Guide which only gives them false hope and direction. We are living in the last days, in which
darkness has covered the earth, and people are groping for an answer. The real answer is in Jesus Christ. Now more then ever, we should shine forth His light so that through us He may draw men unto Himself. Let us proclaim to the world as the angels did to the Shepherds: “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men.”

At Christmas time, there are a lot of things that glitter and shine, but there is only one Light that gives true direction, and that is the Bright and Morning Star, Jesus Christ. There were a lot of stars shining in the sky the night of the Jesus’ birth, but only one special star led the wise men to the stable were the baby Jesus lay. Today, there are many false religions and concepts of how men are to be saved.
But just as there was only one star the wise men could follow to find baby Jesus, there is only one star we can follow today to find
Salvation, that Star is Christ Jesus. For it is only through Him which
salvation comes.
