HEBREWS 9:22 – “Without The Shedding Of Blood Is No Remission”
LEVITICUS 17:11 – “For It Is The Blood That Maketh Atonement For You”
EXODUS 12:13 – “When I See The Blood, I Will Pass Over You”
I. The word “ATONEMENT” in Hebrew means literally “TO COVER” ATONEMENT includes the covering of both the Sins and The Sinner.
A. The only way that sin can be atoned for is by the shedding of the blood of a PERFECT SACRAFICE.
1. God required the animal to be perfect – without blemish.
2. Man could not save himself.
3. It was not possible for the blood of bulls and of goats to take -sins.
4. True to the prophecy given by Abraham “God will provide himself a sacrifice.” This he did when He incarnated Himself in human flesh and went to the Cross.
II. The shedding of BLOOD SPEAKS OF DEATH.
A. Lev. 17:14- The life is in the Blood – Blood is the Lifeline of the Human Body.
B. When Blood is shed – Life is given
C. The Wages of SIN IS DEATH.
1. Sin is Rebellion against God, His Authority
2. The Soul that sinneth IT SHALL DIE
D. The only way out was SUBSTITUTIONARY DEATH.
1. God made Adam and Eve coats of skin – Animals had to die
2. God incorporated it into the law
3. Cain’s sacrifice was not accepted – There was no Blood involved
III.Sin separates Man from his Maker.
A. God is Holy – Man is Sinful – No Fellowship Between Them.
B. To Atone for Sin is to cover it from Gods’ sight so that it no longer provokes His wrath.
C. The horrible demands of Calvary reveals the horribleness of Sin. But also the love for the sinner.
D. There had to be a sinless sacrifice “He was tempted in all points like as we are, yet without Sin.
E. He did not deserve to die, yet He chose to die in our place that through His DEATH, WE COULD LIVE.
IV. II Cor. 5:21 – He hath made Him to be Sin for us who knew no Sin that we might be made the Righteousness of God in Him.
A. I Peter 2:24 – “Who his own self bare our Sins in his own body on the tree
1. The Ram was the substitution for Isaac.
2. Barabbas set free by Death of Jesus – Each of us can be set free.
3. Read Isaiah 53:4-8
B. God cannot compromise – He must Judge Sin – It was judged at Calvary. Isaiah 53:11 “He shall see the travail of His soul and be satisfied after 4000 years – SATISFIED
C. I Peter 1:18, 19 – Not redeemed with corruptible things such as
Silver and gold – But with the Precious Blood of the Lamb.
D. A Redeemer had to have certain qualities:
1. He must be kin to the Man
2. He must be willing to pay the Price
3. He must have the price
V. The Blood Of Christ Has The Power To Make Atonement. Exodus 12:7-13 Hebrews 9:13,14 I John 1:7
A. Israel was not only to kill the Lamb, but to take the Blood and apply it over the Lintel and on the doorposts.
B. The Blood of Christ has the power to cleanse the vilest sinner. Must Be Applied.
C. In the O. T. – Israel waited outside the tabernacle for the priest to come out – If He Did – Sins would be atoned for Blood was accepted.
VI. How is the Blood applied?
A. John 20:31 – “But these are written that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, The Son Of God, and that believing ye might have Life through His Name.
B. Acts 13:38 – Through this Man is preached the forgiveness of Sins
C. Luke 24:47 – And that Repentance and Remission of Sins should be preached in His name among all nations beginning at Jerusalem.
D. Aets-22:16 – Paul was told to arise and wash away his Sins calling on the Name of the Lord.
E. Acts 2:38 – Then Peter said unto them, Repent and be Baptized every one of you in the Name of Jesus Christ for the Remission of sins and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
F. His Blood is in His name – Applied when Baptized in His name for the Remission of Sins.
G. One out of every 44 verses in the New Testament in some way speaks of ATONEMENT.
