The Seven Phases Of Redemption

Bible Lesson: The Seven Phases Of Redemption
Pastoral Note: The most familiar, and most comprehensive. yet most simple text in all the Bible is JOHN 3:16.
We are going to break it down into seven phases, dissecting it in order to get the full meaning of the Bible’s most popular scripture.
JOHN 3:16 – “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
I. THE ORIGIN OF REDEMPTION
“FOR GOD SO LOVED.”
-The fountain-head of salvation is the LOVE OF GOD!
NOTE: It’s not holiness, justice, power, or truth, BUT IT IS LOVE!
REMEMBER – This love is not reserved for the rich, up-standing, clean, pure, perfect; and neither is it reserved for the poor, low-life, filthy, degradated, degenerated, dirlict, drug & alcohol abusers.
*** IT IS DIVINE LOVE TO THE WHOLE OF HUMANITY IN ITS CONDITION OF SUPREME NEED! JOHN 4:10 (to the Samaritan woman at the well) – “If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that sayeth to thee, ‘Give me to drink;’ thou wouldest have asked of Him, and He would have given the living water.”
II. THE OBJECT OF REDEMPTION
“THE WORLD.”
-The object of God’s unreserved and divine love is the ungodly world in all its wreck and ruin and unloveableness.
REMEMBER – This is a would nursed in the lap of the wicked one. A world so blind that it did not know its maker when He came!
JOHN 1:10 – “He was in the world, and the would was made by Him, AND THE WORLD KNEW HIM NOT.”
*** EVEN SO, HE LOVED THIS WORLD SO MUCH HE WAS WILLING TO DIE FOR IT!
III. THE PLAN OF REDEMPTION
“HE GAVE HIS SON.”
-This was Love’s sacrifice to win back an alien would from the love of sin and power of the enemy.
PASTORAL NOTE: God, in planning redemption, planned that He Himself should provide the price. (see I Tim.3:16).
NOTE: This great sacrifice can not be bought. IT IS THE GIFT OF GOD!
*** When John the Baptist saw Jesus coming unto him he stated, “Behold the Lamb of God,” (see John 1:29,36).
*** In the Old Testament a lamb was used as a sin sacrifice or offering. What John was saying was that he recognized Jesus as the sacrificial Lamb that would “take away the sin of the world.” (see John
1:29).
*** GOD’S APPOINTED LAMB ALONE COULD SUFFICE TO MEET THE WORLD’S DIRE NEED OF SALVATION AND REDEMPTION.
IV. THE PURPOSE OF REDEMPTION
“THAT THEY SHOULD NOT PERISH.”
REMEMBER – The purpose of redemption is SALVATION.
JOHN 3:17 – “That the world through Him might be saved.”
He came not to destroy men’s lives, but to save them, (LUKE 9:56).
NOTE: Jesus does not only save souls; He also saves lives!
PAUL SAID: “FOR ME TO LIVE IS CHRIST.”
V. THE EXTENT OF SALVATION OR REDEMPTION
“WHOSOEVER WILL.”
– In this provision made by the sovereign Grace of God there is ample satisfaction for all.
REMEMBER – This is no mock fountain with its imitation jugs and painted streams!
*** WHOSOEVER WILL MAY TAKE THE WATER OF LIFE FREELY! (REVELATION 22:17).
VI. THE APPLICATION OF REDEMPTION
“WHOSOEVER BELIEVETH ON HIM.”
– Faith is not the water, but it is the cup that hangs at the well by which you drink.
PASTORAL NOTE: There are many who believe after a fashion who are utterly destitute of salvation.
REMEMBER – It is not he that believeth only, but he that believeth in Him that hath everlasting life; for even the devils believe in one God and tremble.
VII. THE RESULT OF REDEMPTION
“SHALL NOT PERISH, BUT HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE.”
1. Shall not perish like the old world, but have life like Noah.
2. Shall not perish like the Sodomites, but have life like Lot.
3. Shall not perish like the foolish builder, but have life like the wise man or wise builder.
4. Shall not perish like the rich man, but have everlasting life like Lazarus.
5. Shall not perish like the devil, but have everlasting life like Christ,
